First of all, you could, but you didn't. You sent e-mail instead, which is what most people seem to do. Second of all, I'm bothered on a much more regular basis by people like competing long distance companies, and charities looking to pick stuff up than I am people on the Internet. Thirdly, I'm guessing that stalkers already own phone books, and since I'm listed, it's kind of pointless to try and keep that information contained.
There are some benefits. Some of my friends are forgetful and can't remember my phone numbers -- though they can remember my Web site's address. Some of my friends lose touch with me and can't find my phone numbers. It's for those people that I put them up on the Web.
As of this writing (23 April, 2001), I have received exactly two unsolicited phone calls because of my work on the Internet and my Web site; both of them were from people looking for help, and I'm more than happy to provide it. I like e-mail more because it isn't as much of a burden on the recipient, but the phone works too.
